ABM Architects is a professionally managed and structured architectural and interior design firm based in Mumbai, India. After a decade of practice, Alfaz Miller (Principal Architect and Managing Director) set up an independent design firm in 1982. Today he heads one of the leading architecture and design practices in the country.

ABM's wide experience spans major institutional and corporate projects, private buildings, offices, airports, hotels, health and residential spaces.

The firm enjoys a reputation for architecture and design solutions that are responsive, committed and comprehensive, and most importantly, varied and proactive. The key understanding is that every job is unique in size, budget and requirements and hence requires individual treatment. This is reflected in the firm's creative ability and technical expertise from concept to construction of each project.

The skilled, seamless workforce of over 50 in-house architects, designers and engineers is ably supported by the most competent structural and service consultants. Design excellence, widely acclaimed by the many awards and citations received, is furthered by limiting the number of projects handled by senior associates to not more than three at a time. This policy ensures that the design team assumes a complete, focused responsibility towards outstanding implementation. Client satisfaction has always been the firm's principle objective - its success measured by the repeat assignments that have been awarded to ABM at multiple locations.

ABMs in-house MEP (mechanical, engineering and plumbing) team and employs 12 engineers who closely interact with the architects and interior designers to deliver comprehensive services to each project.

Every ABM creation aims to create a timeless aesthetic with functional design - an objective that has guided the firm since inception and has helped assemble appropriate design vision, methodology and management tools.

ABM's approach to design involves four basic steps:

  • 1

Understanding the requirements of the clients

  • 1

    Evolution of the design

  • 1

Integration of design with engineering principles

  • 1

    Project execution

Appropriate design direction is generated through discussions amongst clients, architects and services consultants where various relevant issues are deliberated and brought to a level of understanding and commitment among the design team. This in turn gives rise to design decisions that dictate the size of the project, the context of the site and the constructibility of the concepts.

The firm constantly exploits and evaluates the wide ranging contributions and ideas from all members within the firm, the clients and the consultants. ABM possesses a rare and highly efficient infrastructure with its own six-storeyed office building in the heart of the city equipped to house multiple teams working simultaneously on various projects.

The building also accommodates Brinda Miller's studio on one of the floors as well as a vast personal collection of art. ABM's art initiative has Brinda Miller advising clients on purchase and commissioning of sculptures, artworks and installations from a vast selection of artists.

Principal Architect & Company Director

"what I respond to is the scope to attempt something new, where there is a clear client's brief, but without endless interference."

After graduating from Bombay University with a B. Arch, Alfaz Miller started his practice in 1972. Alfaz is at home at both ends of the architectural spectrum from small projects which are composed with careful artistry to a highly specialized vocabulary of interior design. He is now working extensively on medium and large architectural projects for private individuals, corporates and institutions. As Alfaz enters his quiet elegant office in Studio Millernium, it hums with high-octane energy, perfectly in keeping with the high-tech corporate projects. The firm specializes in the architecture of private houses, and his office mirrors this interest, with its division into intimate seating and work areas, and his collection of art and vintage cars.
